Medical care of liberated prisoners in a makeshift hospital in Wallern (Volary), May 8, 1945

With the opening of the permanent exhibition 62 years after the camp’s liberation, the history of the concentration camp and its subcamps was documented for the first time. The site developed from a cemetery to a memorial, which dedicates itself to the commemoration and honoring of the victims, as well as to political and historical educational tasks.

The memorial has developed into a place where not only the memory of the victims is piously preserved, but also enables the transfer of accurate and objective information about the victims, while facing the crimes and perpetrators who committed them.
