The area of the former subcamp Pottenstein

The Camp Complex Flossenbürg Today

Photographs by Rainer Viertlböck

In 2019, after decades of vacancy, Flossenbürg Memorial opened the former administration building in the area of the stone quarry. Current pictures taken by the Munich-based photographer Rainer Viertlböck are displayed in a pop-up exhibition. He traveled throughout Bavaria, Bohemia and Saxony to take photos of the areas where the subcamps of Flossenbürg concentration camp had been. Sometimes, remainings can still be found but most of these places are not known as sites of Nazi crimes. The photos impressively show how the places are being used today and reveal ways to deal with the past.

Due to high demand, Flossenbürg Memorial is pleased to show the exhibition again this summer, from June 26 to September 13.

Curators of the exhibit: Dr. Regina Prinz and Nicola Borgmann
